The Bobby Bones Show kicked off a conversation about unread text messages after a clip surfaced of University of Miami head football coach Mario Cristobal being asked how many unread texts he has on his phone.
When asked about just that day, Cristobal asked to clarify if it meant total or recent. He then admitted that altogether he has 9,834 unread text messages on his phone. The clip, shared from ACC Network via TikTok, immediately sparked reactions in the studio. Amy shared her number and at that exact moment, she had 52 unread messages, which was a big improvement for her. She explained that something happened to her phone in December where all previous text threads disappeared, essentially resetting her messages. Since then, the unread count only reflects texts from the new year. Bobby then showed his phone screen and revealed that he had no red notification dots anywhere, no unread texts, emails, missed calls, or voicemails. He said everything gets looked at and addressed. If he misses a call, he checks it and decides whether to call back.
Eddie shared his numbers next. He had 617 unread texts, 436 missed calls, and over 25,000 unread emails. He said it doesn’t bother him and explained that if someone truly needs something, they’ll follow up. He added that he looks at messages without opening them and doesn’t feel the need to clear notifications. Amy jumped in to note, she had 81 voicemails, and she doesn't even know who would be leaving voicemails. Lunchbox admitted to having 621 unread texts and 202 missed calls. The discussion turned to how different everyone is when it comes to notifications, especially in group texts, which Eddie said he usually ignores.
