Maren Morris Shuts Down 'Basement Dweller' Blogger

Maren Morris is standing up for herself.

A country music blog called out the superstar for a lack of “humility, or even dignity” after the release of “The Middle,” her pop EDM collaboration with Zedd, which the writer calls “complete trash.”

After two country music industry insiders took note of what they called “out of bounds” and “sexist.,” Maren herself responded.

“Weird concept, but my ‘humility’ is and has always been towards my fans, not some cowardly basement dweller (no disrespect to basements) with a keyboard," Maren wrote. "Thank you, Marissa & Bev for sticking up for girls who just wanna do their best & not apologize for it.”

In response to criticism for going pop, Maren explains she’s “in the middle of making a COUNTRY album, [and] as far as my side projects go, who cares what genre they are? It’s supposed to be fun.”

“The Middle” is the soundtrack for Target’s spring style marketing campaign and is currently climbing the charts at pop radio.

Maren also recently dropped a new country single called “Rich,” the fourth and final from her debut album Hero.

No official word when Maren will release a sophomore project.
