It’s spooky season, and nobody does strange and mysterious better than Grim & Mild and Blumhouse Television. Their portfolio of moody, unsettling shows include hit podcasts likeLore, Bridgewater, American Shadows, Haunted Road and many more. So it was a match made in heaven when they turned their eyes to one of the greatest and spookiest holidays ever: Halloween. On the first season of 13 Days of Halloween, Keegan-Michael Key gleefully portrayed the creepy caretaker of Hawthorne Manor, introducing listeners to each room in the house so we could hear the unique, terrifying tales of the inhabitants within. In season two, The Sea, Bethany Anne Lind (Stranger Things, Ozark) wakes up on a frozen beach with no memory of who she is. Residents of the eerie New England village of Direbrook want to help her connect the dots….but not everything is as it seems.

In the season premiere, we’re thrown right into the story as our protagonist wakes up gasping, waves crashing around her, on a rocky beach. A friendly resident, played by Kathy Najimy (Sister Act, Hocus Pocus), called only “Mother” by the town, takes her to a nearby fisherman’s house. Though grumpy at first, the fisherman provides the bedraggled woman with a warm coat – and then proceeds to regale her with a tragic tale of the mysterious, wish-granting mortal fish, the otherworldly wife it brought him, and the child he lost to her. “May the Father bless you,” he tells “Mother,” who replies, “All things return to him.”

The iHeartRadio 3D production puts us right into the heart of the story with cinematic audio effects, so headphones are recommended for the best listening experience. The water lapping against the hulls of boats, the waves crashing on the shore, and the bitterness of the wind add to the moody spell cast by the gripping writing and little hints of a larger story to come. Just like the first season, this iteration of 13 Days of Halloween has all the makings of a spooky season classic. So turn off the lights, put on your headphones, and get ready for the delicious chills and thrills of a new season of 13 Days of Halloween.
