It's official — the 2019 Oscars will NOT have a host following Kevin Hart 's homophobic tweet controversy.
A spokesperson for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed to BuzzFeed News on Tuesday (February 5) that award show will not feature a main host, saying that instead there will be a countless number of A-list celebrities on hand who will take the Oscars stage throughout the night. The first stars to appear on the Oscars stage will be Awkwafina , Daniel Craig , Chris Evans , Tina Fey , Whoopi Goldberg , Brie Larson , Jennifer Lopez , Amy Poehler , Maya Rudolph , Amandla Stenberg , Charlize Theron , Tessa Thompson , and Constance Wu .
Following news of the now host-less award show, ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke opened about her initial fears following original Oscars host Kevin Hart's resignation. "I have to be honest – it did [prove worrying at first]. It no longer does," she said, per Variety , before admitting that she's now confident the alter from tradition will not affect the show negatively. "I’ve ironically found that the lack of clarity around the Oscars has kept the Oscars really in the conversation and the mystery has been really compelling," she said. "People really care."
Karey added that she believes the big Blockbusters that are nominated this year will definitely have a positive impact on viewership. "At no time in history have there been three movies nominated for Best Picture each having grossed over $200 million [at the box office]," she explained. "I think we’re going to see a big turnout for this, because these are big, popular movies that are being nominated."
Back in December, Kevin stepped down as Oscars host after multiple homophobic tweets he shared from 2009-2011 resurfaced . The backlash only intensified after Hart refused to apologize for his controversial words (saying he had already previously apologized), and ultimately, Hart chose to step down from hosting the show and later issued multiple apologies.
